7 Ways to be Unapologetically Yourself and Live Authentically
View Post
Here are 7 ways to be unapologetically yourself and live authentically. If you want people to respect you, you need to be yourself. When you are true to yourself, you communicate confidently and people will be drawn to your authenticity. You do you.

Doing these seven things I’m about to share will show others that you’re proud to be unapologetically you. When you are your authentic self, people will respect you more.

Let’s get started.

>>>

Don’t Make Excuses

Making excuses is what insecure people do. Don’t be ashamed of something you’re experiencing or something you are. Instead of making excuses, refrain from pointing it out or just own it. It’s up to you what to do depending on the circumstances just don’t make excuses.

Don’t Apologize

Save “sorry” for when you truly are sorry about something. Being sorry about something you are is not something you are actually sorry about. And if they have a problem with how you are, that’s their problem not yours.

Don’t say “it’s just that”

Using “it’s just that” is a kind of apology. It’s signaling that you think something is wrong and you’re coming up with an excuse.

For example don’t say: Sorry, it’s just that I get overly excited about my job and want everything to run smoothly.

Don’t downplay

There’s no reason to downplay something. Be proud of it without bragging. There’s a way to show humility while also embracing your accomplishments. And it’s not a humblebrag, because a brag is just a brag. Talk about accomplishments in regard to moving forward and to the bigger picture.

Don’t hedge

Hedging is hesitating. People who are unapologetically themselves are not afraid to say what’s on their mind. They are thoughtful about word choice, recognizing the impact of their words and so they think before speaking. They don’t use hedging and fillers to beat around the bush or let the listener guess what they’re going to say. They cut to the chase and get right to the point.

Don’t be afraid to say no

People who say no are unafraid to be who they are. They will turn down opportunities, experiences, meetings, coffee chats that are not aligned with their goals or go against their authenticity. For example, they won’t hang out with people they don’t like just for the sake of status or for show. They’re not trying to meet anyone else’s expectations but their own. They know who they are down to the last fiber of their being and so they don’t depend on others to tell them who they are and what they want. And if you say yes too much then take it from Warren Buffet: "The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything."

Don’t be dishonest

Be frank! Being candid, sincere and frank with others demonstrates that you’re also able to be frank with yourself. You’ve got nothing to hide and nothing to be ashamed of. Remember, you are unapologetically you. Speaking in a sincere manner increases confidence in you and increases people’s respect for you. They know that they can count on you for honest feedback. You don’t lie to yourself and you don’t lie to others. You’re someone who can be trusted.

Those are seven ways you can increase people’s respect for you by showing them that you’re not afraid to be unapologetically yourself. When you put out your authentic expression into the universe you invite authenticity into your life as well. Other authentic people will flock to your side and you’ll not only have a deeper social connection with them, but you’ll have a more meaningful social circle that you can lean on for support and friendship.
